Smithtown, New York (PRWEB) May 19, 2012
Leading surgeons from the ophthalmic industry will illustrate how recent breakthroughs in glaucoma management, cataract surgery and the treatment of retinal and macular disorders can help primary eye care doctors preserve vision loss during this Sunday 2012 Long Island Optometric Symposium sponsored by North Shore Eye Care.
?Primary eye care doctors (optometrists) are the first line of defense in our efforts to help protect the gift of sight and avoid vision loss from vision-threatening diseases like glaucoma, diabetic eye disease and even cataract development,? said Jeffrey Martin, MD, Medical Director of North Shore Eye Care. ?Our medical faculty for this year?s optometric summit meeting are among the finest in their field and we?re extremely pleased to have them share their expertise with our local primary eye care partners on Long Island.?
Joining Dr. Martin will be Vitreoretinal specialist, Brett Rosenblatt, MD, eye specialist, Paul Choinski, MD, and Fellowship-trained uveitis specialist, John Mauro, DO. Coding and compliance expert, Ronald Purnell from Maine Eye Care will join national business consultant Jim Rienzo to discuss the latest business and financial challenges facing eye care practices today. This continuing education medical symposium for optometrists is being held this Sunday, May 20 at the Huntington Hilton in Melville, NY.
?Our annual optometric course is truly the ideal method for us to share the latest developments on the surgical/tertiary side of ophthalmology with our primary eye care partners across Long Island,? said Dr. Martin. ?Since every optometrist is required to maintain a certain number of Continuing Education Medical Credits each year, it?s also very convenient for them to not have to leave Long Island to maintain their credentialing.? With a 50-year history of eye care excellence on Long Island?s, North Shore Eye Care has always maintained a close working relationship with the local optometric community.
Attending optometrists will learn how to interpret various eye conditions, see actual case studies of infectious and diabetic eye conditions, receive updates on managing difficult glaucoma cases and learn the most recent updates on cataract surgery and LASIK being performed around the world.
?North Shore Eye Care is proud to play an important role in the continuing education of our eye care professionals on Long Island,? said Dr. Martin. ?Our goal is to ensure that local residents are receiving the highest quality eye care available today and gaining access to the same advanced eye care found in major medical centers.?
